Letter

Dear Ellie and Sol,

I know that family is important and everything, and that you guys really want to be with me for the rest of your life, but I am going to go find Shay. I might be gone for a while, and I know you will miss me; that is why I am writing this letter. I chose to go find Shay because I want to be home, in our home-sweet-home. I also want to be able to see Shay one more time before I come back. All this stress is tiring me out, and I can't travel that well while I'm tired. I hope to see you again soon.

                                                                                        Love,
                                                                                            Tally Youngblood  a.k.a. "Squint"

Song to Story Connection

I chose two songs to represent pieces of the story, Uglies. The first song is "Beauty from Pain" by Superchick. I chose this song 1) because this is an awesome song; and 2) this is in relation to troubles in the story. Out of pain can spring a new individual. The second song is "Cross the Line" by Superchick. I chose this song 1)  because this song is also awesome; and 2) this is specifically linked to the part in the story where Tally is going to go find Shay. The song reads: "I'm gonna ride like I've got the cops on my tail/I'm gonna live my life like I'm out on bail/I'm gonna be out front, gonna blaze a trail/
I'm gonna cross that line." That chorus, in my mind, represents rebellion, and I sense a hint of rebellion in Tally when she is "forced" to go and find Shay.

*These songs are in the form of music videos. If they do not appear, then make sure your browser supports the plug-ins for YouTube videos. If you have verified the above statements and still cannot get any of the videos, follow these links to the YouTube source for these videos.*

Special Circumstances

I believe that a male or female in Special Circumstances, from the book Uglies, will look like a stern individual that has an imposing attitude and does not care for anything except to get the job done. They will have a very formal look with "raw silks in black and gray, and their faces had the same cold, hawkish look." Both of these individuals fit the description. Their frames look as if they might have been constructed in a factory. Their personality consists of uncaring, "work, work, and more work", and an uncontrollable urge to keep things smooth and under control. They think only of what their current task is, and they will do anything, and everything, they can to complete it. They know not what the meaning of 'Failure' is.

Quote #2

"Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder"

This means that each unique individual has their own unique view of what beauty is (i.e. Japan and their foot wrapping; France and makeup). It applies to the Twilight Zone episode by the fact that they had to "fix her face" to make her more like them. It applies to the book because some of the "uglies" did not want to become "pretty", and the rest of the "uglies" do. It applies to life because we have a large diversity of cultures.
